These Meiji period Japanese Fukagawa porcelain vases stand on carved dark wood tripod stands with claw feet. Each tall vessel has a flared rim, a terracotta ground decorated with a geometric brocade pattern, and a central white section hand painted with polychrome enamel illustrations of birds of paradise among blossom trees and plants. The glazed bodies display rich terracotta, white, blue, green, and orange tones, complemented by the warm brown finish of the carved wooden bases. Standing at 94 cm high, this large pair is suitable for placement in an empty corner of a living room or hallway in an English country house interior.
