Imari porcelain, originating from the Arita region in Japan, is recognised for its characteristic underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red and gold enamelling. Vases from this region were historically exported to Europe, where many were later converted into functional table lamps during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

These lamps feature high-fired hard-paste porcelain bases decorated with polychrome enamels, typically mounted onto turned brass, wood, or gilt plinths. Electrical components are fitted through the neck or base to allow internal wiring without compromising the ceramic structure.
