Originating in the Arita region of Japan during the Edo period, Imari porcelain is characterised by its distinctive underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red and gold enamelled decoration.

These lighting pieces were originally produced as decorative porcelain vases using kaolin clay fired at high temperatures, hand-painted with enamel designs, and subsequently fitted with electrical components and mounting bases.
