Exceptional Arts & Crafts Cabinet C.1900

1900 - 1920
Description

Exceptional inlaid mahogany and leaded glass cabinet in the Arts & Crafts style by the high end cabinet makers Robson & Sons of Newcastle Upon Tyne c.1900. Of singular design with two leaded glass displays (internal width 6", height 14") and a shallow shelf above the bow fronted and overhanging board, below which are two drawers and a two door cupboard fitted with a single shelf (internal depth 14").

In line with the values of the Arts and Crafts movement this remarkable piece harnesses and celebrates a range of crafts in one unified decorative scheme. Stylised plant forms are to be found in the shapes of the hand made coloured glass used in the leaded panels. They appear in the fine marquetry inlays at the centre of the raised pediment, on the front stiles supporting the glass cabinets and again on the charming little square door panels. They are also to be found in the design of the beautiful metal ware (brass plated with silver or white metal) which must have been commissioned especially for the piece. With fabulous pierced backplates to the handles on the drawers and a pierced decoration at the centre of the long strap hinges to the doors. Note also the beautiful little keyhole escutcheons.

Fine quality cabinet making in solid mahogany with crisp mouldings. Shaped apron below the cabinet to the front and sides and moulded feet front and rear. Unusual sloping drawer fronts with an inlaid maker's label to the left hand drawer. Stamped with a serial number on the rear.

With a repair to the cornice overhanging the left hand display cabinet and cracks to a couple of the very small clear glass pieces. Otherwise excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
