Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lyre clock features a case shaped like a classical lyre instrument, a motif popularised in late 18th-century France that continued through the 19th century. The clock movement is housed within or suspended from the lyre frame, often paired with Neoclassical decorative elements.

These clocks are primarily crafted using carved marble, particularly pink or white varieties, combined with ormolu (gilded bronze) mounts, enamel dials, and sometimes cut glass or paste gems encircling the bezel.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast-bronze mounts with hand-chased detailing, fire-gilding showing slight wear in high-touch areas, hand-painted enamel dials, and period movement mechanisms often stamped with French maker marks.

Place the clock as a focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, console, or sideboard, balanced with minimal modern art or understated glassware to allow the elaborate gilded metalwork and marble texture to stand out.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners or water on gilded bronze to prevent stripping the gold finish, and use specialized marble cleaners sparingly to avoid etching the stone surface.
