Nineteenth-century enamelled glass refers to glassware decorated with melted glass powders or opaque pigments fused to the surface through firing, popular in France during the Victorian era for decorative and vanity items.

These pieces were typically crafted from blown or moulded glass, often coloured with mineral oxides like gold or copper, and hand-painted with raised enamel dots or floral motifs, fitted with brass or gilt metal mounts.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic traits such as hand-blown pontil marks on the base, genuine wear on metal mounts, hand-applied enamel with slight irregularities, and the distinct weight and hue of period glass formulation.

Place the jar on a dressing table, marble bathroom shelf, or a decorative tray alongside modern perfumes or candles to add a touch of historical colour, texture, and refined craftsmanship to the space.

Clean the glass gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive scrubbing, or soaking in water, which can damage the delicate hand-painted enamel and metal hinges.
