This three-piece garniture set dates from the Napoleon III period around 1880 and comprises a central architectural clock accompanied by a matching pair of side urns. Manufactured from gilt bronze, brass, porcelain and blue velvet, the items display a polished gold finish accented by hand-painted porcelain panels depicting landscape scenes, white Roman numeral clock dials, and turned cast feet. The central clock features an arched case surmounted by a tiered urn with a pineapple finial, classical side finials, foliate casting, and a central cartouche, while the ovoid urns stand upon slender stems above square plinths. Every piece sits upon a vibrant blue velvet pad mounted over an embossed gilded wooden base. The clock measures 43 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, with the side urns forming a balanced accompaniment. Positioned on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table in a living room, dining room, or hallway, this set brings classical French chateau style to traditional and period interiors. The collection works well as a decorative focal point on a deep shelf or across a fireplace mantel, adding symmetry and historic character to interior displays.

A clock garniture is a decorative set featuring a central mantel clock paired with two matching side ornaments, such as urns, vases, or garniture candlesticks. Popularised in 19th-century France, garnitures were designed to create symmetrical, formal arrangements atop fireplace mantels and sideboards.

High-grade garnitures typically combine cast bronze or brass, often mercury-gilded (ormolu), with hand-painted porcelain panels or Sevres-style porcelain plaques. Internal clock mechanisms feature mechanical brass movements driven by springs and pendulums.

Authentic pieces feature finely chased cast metalwork, visible hand-painted detail on porcelain elements, and maker stamps or serial numbers on the rear movement plate. Weight is also a key indicator, as solid cast bronze and heavy porcelain weigh significantly more than modern reproductions.

A clock garniture functions best as a central, symmetrical anchor on a grand fireplace mantelpiece or a dining room sideboard. To balance the ornate detailing, place the set against a neutral, plain backdrop or pair it with simple contemporary artwork.

Dust regularly using a soft brush or microfibre cloth, taking care around delicate raised elements. Avoid liquid chemical cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials, as these can strip original gilding and damage hand-painted porcelain glazes.
