It is double ended and of traditional design. There are engraved initials to the back of the bowl.

It has some evidence of fire stain to the back of the bowl, proving alongside the clear hallmarks that it is a period piece. It appears to have been slightly dented to the tip of the narrow end. Otherwise it is in good order with wear commensurate to its age.

Marrow scoops gained popularity during the 18th century in Britain as a specialised dining implement used to extract marrow from bones during formal meals.

These pieces were traditionally forged from sterling silver using hand-hammering and shaping techniques, often bearing maker marks and hallmarks denoting the year and assay office.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks indicating the sterling standard, makers mark, and date letter, alongside characteristic weight, patina, and wear consistent with age.

They are typically displayed within glass cabinets, shadow boxes, or integrated into curated dining table collections to highlight historic culinary practices.

Preservation requires gentle cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that can damage hallmarks and the metal surface.
