Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Art Deco bedside cabinets, attributed to Wyle and Lochead of Glasgow from 1930, uses burr walnut veneer with a light, warm brown timber finish. Each cabinet contains three stacked drawers fitted with original round carved wooden knobs, a low raised gallery along the back edge, rounded top corners, and distinct scroll-shaped bracket feet. The visible grain patterning shows rich figuring across the drawer fronts and top surfaces. Measuring approximately 40 cm wide by 40 cm deep and 70 cm high, the compact form fits neatly beside a bed to provide enclosed bedside storage for lamps, books, and night-time essentials in a modern bedroom setting.

FAQs

Art Deco bedroom furniture from the 1920s and 1930s is defined by streamlined geometric shapes, clean contours, and high-quality wood veneers. Burr walnut was frequently selected for its dramatic natural grain patterns and warm tones.

Cabinetmakers of this era favoured solid hardwoods layered with decorative timber veneers, such as burr walnut, mahogany, and maple. Handles were crafted from turned wood, cast brass, bakelite, or chrome to complement the woodwork.

Authentic pieces often feature stamped maker marks or metal plaques inside drawers or on cabinet backs. Construction details include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, high-grade timber veneers, and precise hand-carved details consistent with early 20th-century British manufacturing.

Place one cabinet on either side of a upholstered bed frame to create balance. Pair the warm walnut tones with neutral wall colours, brass ambient lighting, and minimalist textiles to let the decorative timber grain remain the visual focal point.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth along the direction of the grain. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish occasionally to protect the finish, and avoid positioning the cabinets near direct heat sources or prolonged direct sunlight.
