Exhibit Antiques has dated this Georgian Cut Glass Bowl to the Georgian era.
A superb Georgian Irish kettle drum standing bowl dating to c1810.
The upright rim is richly decorated with a continuous band of finely cut diamonds and fans, whilst the bowl is supported on a slender stem with a ball knop above a notch-cut domed foot.

Standing bowls of this form take their name from their resemblance to a military kettle drum and were intended as elegant centrepieces for the dining table. They were used for displaying fruit, sweetmeats or flowers and formed an important part of fashionable Regency table settings.

The restrained yet confident cutting is characteristic of the finest Irish glass of the period, with the combination of broad polished surfaces and crisp geometric decoration creating a particularly elegant appearance.
