This late Victorian scent bottle belongs to the Victorian period and exemplifies the style of the era. The piece is constructed from silver and crystal, rendered in emerald green and silver tones. The cylindrical vessel has a faceted glass body and is topped with a hallmarked silver cap. The item measures 7.5 cm high, 2.5 cm wide, and 2.5 cm deep. In a modern home, this bottle serves as a decorative accessory for a bedside table. The photograph shows the vertical facets running down the green glass body, the polished smooth dome of the metal cap, and the stamped hallmarks visible around the silver collar.

Silver-topped glass scent bottles became popular during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as portable containers for liquid perfumes and smelling salts. Often carried in reticules or displayed on dressing tables, these vessels combined decorative metalwork with cut or coloured glass.

Antique scent bottles typically combine blown or cut glass bodiesoften in clear, ruby, or emerald toneswith fitted caps crafted from sterling silver, nickel, or silver gilt. The glass is frequently faceted to catch light, while silver tops often feature hallmarked collars or screw-fit mechanisms.

Authentic British silver-topped bottles usually display hallmarks on the silver collar or cap, indicating the maker, silver purity, assay office, and date letter. Additionally, authentic pieces often exhibit hand-cut glass facets and correct thread alignment on screw tops.

Small glass scent bottles are well-suited for display on vanity trays, bathroom counters, or bedroom sideboards. Grouping bottles of varying heights or rich colours together creates a focused visual feature on a shelf or dressing table.

Clean the glass interior using warm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the surface or silver mount. Silver caps should be polished gently with a soft silver cloth, taking care not to allow polish to pool in recessed hallmarks.
