Exhibit Antiques has dated this Victorian Bristol Blue Bowl to the Victorian era.
A fine mid 19th century Victorian glass finger bowl in a rich Bristol Blue colour, dating to c1850.
It has a simple rounded form with thick walls and a particularly good weight in the hand.

Finger bowls formed part of the formal Victorian dining table and were generally brought to the table with the dessert course, containing water in which diners could rinse their fingertips. Their use became particularly associated with increasingly elaborate dining etiquette during the 19th century.

Today they can be used for almost anything from a simple decorative piece to a small serving bowl or a container for tea lights.
Either way it is just as useful today as it was almost 200 years ago.
