This Edwardian solid silver cream jug dates from the period and exemplifies traditional English silversmithing. The piece exhibits a bright, reflective silver finish with a bellied vessel shape, a flared scalloped rim, and a broad frilled rim foot to the circular pedestal base. The body displays detailed repousse floral embossing across the sides, complemented by a high-arched flying scroll handle featuring a reeded thumb plate, a pouring spout, and a rope-twist rim detail. Hallmarks for London silversmiths Henry Atkins & Sons appear alongside a maker's mark, with the piece weighing 3.5 troy oz and measuring 11.5 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 6.5 cm deep. In a modern home, this piece suits placement on a sideboard top or dining table for serving cream during afternoon tea or morning coffee. The durable silver construction provides everyday utility, while the ornate embossing and traditional silhouette contribute a decorative aesthetic to traditional and contemporary interior settings alike. The compact footprint allows easy integration into existing tableware collections without requiring significant display space.

Edwardian silver design, dating from 1901 to 1910, incorporated revivalist influences including Neoclassical and Rococo features. Pieces typically displayed refined chasing, floral embossing, scrollwork, and balanced proportions.

Antique silver cream jugs were raised from sheet metal or cast in sections, with spouts, handles, and pedestal feet soldered in place. Decorative patterns were created using techniques such as hand-chasing and repousse embossing.

Authentic British Edwardian silver displays official assay hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling quality, a town mark, a makers mark, and a date letter denoting the early 20th century.

An antique silver cream jug can be placed on a sideboard tray, incorporated into a coffee table arrangement, or used as a small vase for fresh garden blooms.

Maintain silver by wiping with a soft cloth and polishing occasionally with a specialist silver polish. Avoid harsh chemicals or automatic dishwashers, and store items in anti-tarnish fabric sleeves when not on display.
