Georgian Exeter Silver Cream Jug

Description

A good example of a Sterling Silver milk or cream jug dating from the early 19th Century. It is an elegant design with a beautifully curved pouring spout and delicate engraved bands of decoration and an ornate shield shaped cartouche on the front.

The jug is good quality, weighing approximately 97g. It is stamped with the Lion Passant for sterling silver but there is no discernible town or date mark. However it is clearly stamped with the maker's mark for Francis Parsons who operated from Exeter between 1800-1820.

It is in good condition for its age. There are some faint surface marks, small dinks and dents and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Georgian silver cream jugs were produced between 1714 and 1830, characterised by balanced proportions, hand-hammered construction, and hand-engraved or bright-cut decorative motifs.
