This Regency spill vase originates from the Swansea Porcelain period between 1814 and 1826, constructed from fine, translucent soft paste porcelain with a white glaze and a baluster shape. Hand-painted summer flower sprays in pink, yellow, blue, and purple decorate the body, complemented by a flared lip and a pedestal foot with dentil gilding along the rim and base. Three small chips mark the base of the piece. It measures 11.3 cm high and 6.5 cm wide. Placed on a mantelpiece or a display surface in a home today, the vessel holds dry arrangements or stands alone as a decorative accent. The refined floral motifs and gilded details suit traditional room settings, bringing classical proportions and period elegance to an interior display.

Spill vases were designed to sit on a mantelpiece holding spills, which were thin strips of wood or rolled paper used to transfer fire from the hearth to light candles, lamps, or pipes.

Regency porcelain vases were manufactured from fine soft-paste or hard-paste porcelain, decorated with hand-painted enamel botanical designs, and detailed with mercury gilding.

Authentic Swansea and Nantgarw porcelain items frequently display a translucent body with a characteristic duck-egg tint when backlit, accompanied by period hand-painted decoration and impressed or painted factory marks.

Place a Regency spill vase on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or console table alongside contemporary glass vessels or modern artwork to create a curated, eclectic aesthetic.

Dust the surface gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners, harsh chemicals, or abrasive scrubbing, which can wear away delicate surface enamels and gilding over time.
