FAQs

A bowfront corner cupboard is a space-saving cabinet featuring a right-angle back designed to fit into a room corner, paired with a convex, curved front door.

These pieces were typically crafted using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often finished with beeswax or shellac, and fitted with brass or turned timber knobs.

Authentic period examples often show hand-planed backboards, hand-cut dovetail or mortise joints, uneven wear patterns around handles, and natural wood shrinkage appropriate to age.

Small corner cupboards can be mounted at eye level in dining rooms or modern cloakrooms, or placed on a countertop to utilise underused corner spaces effectively.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
