This Art Nouveau cameo glass vase takes a slender trumpet form rising from a circular pedestal base. The piece is rendered in pale yellow and purple glass, displaying acid-etched cameo layers that depict dark purple and brown iris flowers, reeds, lily pads, and lotus flowers against a textured yellow background, culminating in a dark purple foot with a smooth, glossy finish. Measuring 20 cm high, the compact item is signed by Gallé within the cameo design and presents very good condition. Positioned on a sideboard top, the vase provides a decorative display for floral arrangements or stands as an ornamental accent within a French Chateau interior. The slender profile allows placement on narrow ledges, mantelpieces, or display cabinets where the light passes through the multi-coloured glass layers. The piece integrates into dining rooms, living spaces, or studies, bringing classic botanical motifs and rich colour tones to everyday interior settings.

French cameo glass refers to luxury art glass produced around the turn of the 20th century, characterised by multiple fused layers of differently coloured glass that were acid-etched or carved to create raised, detailed designs, frequently inspired by nature.

These vases were created by blowing a base layer of coloured glass and layering additional contrasting glass coats over it, after which protective wax or acid-resist masks were applied to etch away background areas and reveal the relief motifs.

Authentic pieces generally display precise acid-etching depth, hand-finished signatures integrated into the design or etched into the surface, smooth ground pontil marks, and distinct layering of translucent or opaque glass.

Positioning cameo glass near direct or warm accent lighting, such as on a sideboard top or deep window sill, illuminates the varying glass thicknesses and highlights the translucent colours of the overlay technique.

Dust the surface with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and wash gently using lukewarm water and mild detergent if required, avoiding abrasive chemicals, harsh scrubbing, or immersion in hot water.
