Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Medullary rays across the dished seat: quarter-sawn oak cut for stability.
Baluster-turned legs socketed into the solid top: early twentieth-century country furniture work.
Crossed stretchers halved together: standard early twentieth-century joinery.
Dark polish accumulated in the turning hollows: decades of regular waxing.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This matching pair of small antique stools originates from the early 20th century in a rustic farmhouse style. Constructed from solid oak, the timber displays a rich warm brown colour with a natural grain and a visible patina developed from age. Each stool comprises a thick dished circular seat positioned above four turned baluster legs that are connected by an intersecting cross stretcher frame beneath. Small knocks and marks on the wood reflect their age and history while maintaining their solid and sturdy construction. Measuring 24 cm high and 20 cm wide, these compact pieces suit practical use in a home today as low footstools, plant stands, or occasional seats positioned within a fireplace alcove or beside a fireside chair.

Small oak stools were traditionally utilised in rural English households and farmsteads as versatile, portable seating or footrests, constructed by local carpenters using native timber.

These stools were typically constructed using solid oak, featuring turned baluster legs secured with mortise and tenon joinery, reinforced with cross stretchers for structural stability.

Authentic examples demonstrate natural wear around the stretcher rails, uneven lathe work on the turned legs, minor shrinkage along the wood grain, and an unrefined, aged patina.

They can serve as low side tables beside low-profile seating, placed within a hearth alcove, or used as elevated stands for indoor planters to introduce organic wood tones.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice annually to preserve the timber grain, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners and direct heat sources.
