Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Windsor stool displays an English Country style in a robust, substantial construction of ash and elm with rich mid-brown colourings. The piece comprises a solid circular dished seat with a moulded edge, supported by four splayed turned legs joined by ring-turned stretchers. Noticeable visual details include the polished wood grain on the seat top, bulbous turnings near the feet, and delicate rounded mouldings along the lower frame members. Measuring 51 cm high, 40 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this practical seating option serves well in a home today by a fireplace hearth or within a rustic farmhouse kitchen, providing traditional character and sturdy utility.

FAQs

A Windsor stool features a solid wood seat into which turned legs and stretchers are directly inserted using wedged mortise and tenon joints, a method perfected in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Britain.

These stools were crafted using native British hardwoods, typically pairing elm for the shaped seat due to its split-resistant grain with oak, ash, or beech for the turned legs and stretchers.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples exhibit hand-turned leg profiles, subtle asymmetry from hand tools, wedged joint construction visible on top of the seat, and natural wear patterns on the footrests and stretchers.

A Windsor stool functions effectively as an occasional side table, a plant stand, or a decorative accent alongside a fireplace hearth to introduce organic warmth and historic contrast into contemporary rooms.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish and prevent drying out. Avoid placing the wood near direct heat sources or high humidity.
