This Victorian country stool dates from the nineteenth century and is constructed from elm and ash. The piece has a warm brown, golden timber colour with visible grain patterns on the thick, contoured circular seat. Four turned wooden legs are joined by structural cross stretchers, and the whole design conveys a rustic farmhouse aesthetic. The timber exhibits signs of age through its worn finish and natural grain texture. Practical dimensions are 50 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. The stool works well in a home today positioned near a fireplace hearth for extra seating, or used as a compact side table in a living room, hallway, or bedroom.

Nineteenth-century country stools were utilitarian seating pieces produced for domestic and agricultural settings, featuring turned legs, stretchers for structural stability, and solid timber seats.

English country stools commonly combined elm for the contoured seatdue to its dense, split-resistant grainwith turned legs made of oak, ash, or beech joined by wedged tenons and stretchers.

Authentic 19th-century examples exhibit natural wear along the stretchers and leg bases, irregular hand-turned legs, and an established patinated surface that synthetic finishes cannot replicate.

A rustic wooden stool functions as a versatile accent piece, serving as a plant stand, side table beside a bath or armchair, or decorative element in an entryway.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain to nourish the timber and maintain the protective surface.
