The Queen Anne style emerged in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries, characterised by curved lines, cabriole legs, and a focus on comfort and domestic utility rather than heavy ornamentation.

Cabinet makers predominantly used walnut, often incorporating burr walnut veneers for decorative figured grain effects on flat panels, supplemented by secondary native timbers such as oak and pine.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, period brass hardware, and construction methods consistent with 18th-century joinery techniques.

Pairing traditional dark wood furniture with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary artwork creates a balanced interior that highlights the intricate grain and historical character.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat them periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
