Bedside cabinets evolved from small cupboards and commodes used in European bedrooms during the 18th and 19th centuries to house chamber pots and personal items before plumbing moved indoors.

Traditional pieces are typically constructed from solid timbers such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring hand-carved details, dovetail joints, and often marble or wooden tops.

Authenticity is assessed by examining construction marks, hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage, patina, and historical hardware consistent with the specific manufacturing era.

Pairing a historical wooden cabinet with contemporary lighting and minimalist decor creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that grounds modern spaces with texture and history.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, cleaning with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber.
