FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and is characterised by robust construction, dark woods like mahogany, and various revivals of historical gothic, rococo, and classical styles.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly used solid mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, often incorporating secondary pine or oak for drawer linings and internal framing.

Authentic pieces feature period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer joints, solid timber backs, and lack of modern mechanical fasteners.

Pairing dark wood antique cabinets with neutral walls, modern minimalist lighting, and contemporary artwork creates a balanced, layered interior design scheme.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying high-quality beeswax, avoiding silicone-based polishes and direct sunlight exposure.
