Georgian opaque twist glasses feature stems enclosing white or coloured enamel glass threads, often spun into intricate lace or gauze patterns, which became popular following the Excise Act of 1745.

These pieces are handcrafted from lead glass, known for its heavy feel and brilliant clarity, with internal twists formed by inserting enamel rods into molten glass before drawing and twisting the stem.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot, natural surface wear or tiny air bubbles within the metal, and the characteristic greyish refraction of period lead glass.

Antique stemware can be displayed within illuminated cabinets or styled on a dining table centrepiece, adding historic texture and refined craftsmanship to contemporary tablescapes.

Antique glass should be hand washed gently in warm water using mild soap, avoiding abrasive materials or sudden temperature changes to protect the fragile lead composition.
