A George III linen press is a tall storage cabinet from the late 18th to early 19th century, traditionally featuring upper panelled doors enclosing sliding trays for folded linens and lower drawers for garments.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, frequently featuring figured mahogany veneers on the doors, oak secondary timbers for drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original backboards, period brass hardware, and timber patination consistent with age and oxidisation.

An antique linen press serves as a focal point in a bedroom or hallway, offering substantial storage while adding warmth and historical texture to contemporary or neutral schemes.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodically applying beeswax to nourish the timber and preserve the finish.
