Opaline glass is an opaque or translucent glass, often in pastel or white shades, which gained immense popularity in Europe during the 19th century, particularly within the Georgian and Victorian eras.

Opaline glass is created by adding bone ash, arsenic, or tin oxide to the molten glass batch to achieve its characteristic milky, semi-opaque appearance, often hand-blown and finished with applied handles or footed bases.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base from hand-blowing, subtle weight variations, and minor surface imperfections characteristic of early manufacturing techniques.

Opaline glass objects make refined display pieces on open shelving, sideboards, or mantelpieces, reflecting light and adding subtle texture to both minimalist and traditional schemes.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock.
