Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French marquetry and cabinet-making traditions flourished during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly under the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, where master artisans utilised exotic woods like kingwood and tulipwood to create intricate geometric and floral patterns.

Authentic pieces typically feature a carcase of oak or pine veneered with exotic hardwoods such as kingwood, assembled with traditional dovetail joints, and topped with shaped slab marble, complemented by cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts.

Authenticity is determined by examining the interior construction for hand-cut dovetailing, tool marks on the timber, the ageing and patina of the wood, hand-chased cast bronze mounts, and the natural irregularities found in antique slab marble.

These cabinets serve as focal points in a bedroom or living space, pairing well with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary art to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain the timber using high-quality beeswax applied sparingly with a soft cloth, avoid direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent wood movement, and clean the marble top exclusively with mild soap and warm water while avoiding acidic substances.
