Description

A smart and very well made antique military campaign style mahogany cabinet. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, this is a great size and is a very practical item. It is perfect for use as a low sideboard or tv cabinet. The front has dummy drawer fronts which open out into doors, revealing a large double width internal space with a wide shelf. The mahogany has a lovely colour tone and patina, offset nicely by the brass hardware. The back is also nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Campaign chests are modular items of furniture designed to be easily dismantled and transported by British military officers during campaigns in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries.

They are typically constructed from durable hardwoods like mahogany, teak, or camphor, featuring recessed brass handles, reinforced brass corners, and often split into stacking sections for portability.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails, secondary woods consistent with the era, and flush-fitting brass hardware designed to prevent snagging during transport.

A campaign chest works well as a focal storage piece in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, pairing effectively with both contemporary minimalism and traditional decor.

Maintain the wood by applying natural beeswax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, and gently cleaning brass hardware with appropriate non-abrasive metal cleaners.
