This pair of French Art Nouveau art glass vases dates from 1920. Hand-blown in glass, the vessels present a smooth finish with a striking colour gradient that transitions from a pale green elongated neck down to a deep burgundy spattered bulbous base. Additional details visible include vertical ribbed mouldings running along the lower body and distinctive pinched feet that flare outwards at the base. Each vase measures 35 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a mantelpiece in a traditional living room, these decorative items provide a balanced display when placed together on a flat surface. The sculptural silhouette and contrasting tones integrate well into an interior styled with French chateau influences, while the slender profile allows them to hold single botanical stems or stand alone as ornamental objects.

French art glass refers to decorative glassware produced in France primarily from the late 19th to mid-20th century, characterised by innovative techniques in colour synthesis, acid-etching, and hand-blown forms.

Vases of this type were created using hand-blown techniques, combining layers of casing, spattered colour pigments, and hot-applied pinch-formed bases.

Authentic pieces often feature pontil marks on the underside, subtle hand-blown variations in form, characteristic colour gradients, and occasionally etched or stamped maker signatures.

Position them as a pair on a mantelpiece, console table, or window sill where natural light highlights the gradient colours and translucent glass properties.

Hand wash gently in tepid water with mild dish soap using a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, extreme temperature changes, and abrasive scrubbers.
