FAQs

Apothecary drawers originated in historic pharmacies and dispensaries, where practitioners used compartmentalised wooden cabinets to systematically organise dried herbs, roots, minerals, and chemical compounds.

These units were traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, oak, or pine, featuring durable dovetailed drawer joints and turned wooden knobs to withstand heavy daily use in a professional dispensary.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, historical label holders made from brass or glass, and natural oxidisation across the wood surfaces rather than artificial distress.

They function effectively as striking focal points on desks, sideboards, or console tables, serving as practical storage for small modern accessories while adding historical character and texture to contemporary schemes.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable room humidity away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without compromising the original patina.
