FAQs

Bohemian cranberry glass, also known as ruby glass, was produced primarily in the Bohemia region during the 19th century. It achieved its distinct rich red colour through the addition of gold chloride to the glass batch during melting.

These vessels were hand-blown from potash-lime glass and frequently embellished with hand-painted enamel portraits, floral motifs, and heavy gilding applied by skilled artisans.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished details, minor irregularities typical of mouth-blowing, delicate enamel work, and age-related wear to the gilded surfaces. Pontil marks on the base are also key indicators of period manufacture.

Display the piece as a standalone focal point on a mantelpiece or side table where natural light can pass through the coloured glass, highlighting its rich tone and intricate details.

Clean the item gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or lukewarm water with mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, and immersion in water for extended periods to protect the delicate gilding and enamelling.
