A rummer is a large, sturdy drinking glass that became popular in Britain during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, typically used for serving wine, beer, or rum punch.

These vessels were traditionally hand-blown from lead glass or flint glass, then hand-cut on a wheel to create geometric facets, diamonds, and flutes.

Authentic pieces often exhibit small surface irregularities from hand-blowing, pontil marks on the underside of the foot, wear consistent with age, and a heavier weight due to high lead content.

Displaying antique glassware on open shelving, within glass-fronted cabinets, or using them as small floral vases adds historical texture and refined detail to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in warm water using mild soap, avoiding extreme temperature fluctuations and harsh scrubbing to protect the delicate surface and historical patina.
