We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The Napoleon III style, popular during the Second French Empire, is characterised by an eclectic revival of historical motifs, heavily influenced by Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI aesthetics, often featuring luxurious materials and ornate embellishments.

These decorative containers typically combined opaline or crystal glass bodies with gilt bronze or brass mounts, known as ormolu, often incorporating hand-finished cast metalwork and intricate filigree.

Authentic pieces generally display period-correct hand-cut bases, natural irregularities in the glass manufacture, traditional fire-polishing marks, and heavy, genuine ormolu mounts rather than modern electroplated alloys.

Positioning the piece on a dressing table, mantlepiece, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet allows its reflective qualities and metallic details to stand out while adding a layer of historical texture to modern spaces.

Dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth is recommended, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, or soaking, as moisture and cleaning agents can damage the delicate gilt surfaces and historical adhesives.
