Description

Very elegant Regency period (1820’s) mahogany glazed top fully adjustable bookcase with cupboard below and stands on splayed feet.

Book matched veneers to the two lower door panels which open up to a full depth central shelf.

The glazed doors with their original glass (one very small crack which you really have to look hard to find) open up to the fully adjustable shelves, all original.

Wonderful colour and for a large piece of furniture, it certainly has a light and elegant feel, helped by the raised splayed legs and serpentine bottom rail.

Splits into two parts for moving and handling…no problem to arrange delivery for you!

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Regency bookcases, crafted during the early nineteenth century in Britain, feature symmetrical proportions, architectural mouldings, and flame mahogany veneers. They typically combine glazed upper sections with solid lower cupboards.

These cabinets were predominantly built using mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses. The glass panels were held by delicate wooden astragal glazing bars, and internal shelves were often set on adjustable ratchet systems.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, such as hand-cut dovetails and hand-planed back panels. Original glass may display slight distortion, while the hardware typically includes period brass locks and hinges.

This type of furniture can be integrated into modern living rooms or home offices by styling the glazed shelves with a mix of literature, ceramics, and sculpture. The rich mahogany tone provides visual contrast against neutral or dark-painted walls.

Mahogany surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and polished with natural beeswax once or twice a year. Glass panels require non-ammonia cleaners applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the wooden frame.
