FAQs

Victorian furniture, produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), spans various revival styles and is characterised by substantial craftsmanship, rich wood selections, and often intricate detailing.

Cabinet makers of the era predominantly used native and exotic hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and mahogany, frequently enhanced with decorative veneers like pollard oak, satinwood, and burr elm.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting traditional joinery methods such as hand-cut dovetails on drawers, secondary timbers inside the carcass, original brass or cast-iron hardware, and natural ageing like surface oxidisation.

Pairing antique wooden pieces with contemporary neutral walls and minimalist lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain and historical character of the wood.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
