Miniature chests of drawers from the nineteenth century were often created as apprentice pieces, salesman samples, or specialised pieces for storing small valuables like jewellery and trinkets.

These items were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, featuring traditional joinery like dovetails on the drawer construction and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, natural timber oxidisation, hand-cut joinery, and wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

It can be placed on a desktop, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to act as a focal point for displaying small curiosities while adding historical texture to modern spaces.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood shrinkage, and occasionally treat the timber with appropriate microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
