Victorian furniture, produced during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, encompasses a wide range of revival styles influenced by Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo movements, often characterised by dark woods, solid craftsmanship, and functional design.

Cabinet makers of the Victorian era frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and panelled timber construction.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetailing, signs of natural ageing in the timber, period brass or iron hinges and locks, and maker marks or labels from regional cabinet makers.

Mounting a historic timber cabinet on a plain, neutral wall creates an effective focal point, allowing the rich grain of the wood to contrast with contemporary minimalist surroundings while offering practical storage.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent warping, and periodically apply microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish without sealing the grain.
