The Atmos clock is a mechanical timepiece that does not need to be wound by hand or batteries. It operates using a hermetically sealed capsule containing a gas-and-liquid mixture that expands and contracts with temperature changes, effectively winding the mainspring continuously.

Atmos clocks are typically constructed with a brass or gilt metal frame, glass panels enclosing the movement, and precision brass mechanical components with a torsion pendulum.

Authentication involves checking the movement calibre number stamped on the plate, verifying the Jaeger-LeCoultre signature on the dial or movement, examining the quality of the brass finish, and inspecting the torsion pendulum locking mechanism.

Position the clock on a flat, stable surface away from direct sunlight, drafts, and vibrations, such as on a desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf, where its intricate mechanism can be fully appreciated.

The clock should never be moved without first locking the torsion pendulum using the lever provided. It requires professional servicing every decade by a specialist trained in perpetual motion mechanisms and should be cleaned only with a dry, soft microfiber cloth.
