Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Famille Rose, known in Chinese as yangcai, is a type of Chinese porcelain characterised by opaque enamel decorations introduced during the Qing dynasty in the early 18th century. The palette is dominated by pink or rose colours derived from colloidal gold.

These pieces are crafted from high-fired petuntse and kaolin clay, glazed with transparent porcelain glaze, and hand-painted overglaze using mineral enamels. The items are then fired a second time at a lower temperature to fuse the polychrome pigments.

Authentic pieces feature hand-painted details with visible brushwork variation, characteristic crazing, iron-spotted underglazes, and period-appropriate reign marks on the base. Examination under magnification reveals fine enamel pitting and age-related wear consistent with historical handling.

These decorative objects work effectively as focal points on open shelving, mantelpieces, or dedicated console tables. Pairing them against minimalist backdrops allows the intricate polychrome details and historical craftsmanship to stand out without visual clutter.

Antique porcelain should be dusted gently using a soft, dry brush and washed only when necessary by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap. Harsh chemicals, abrasive cloths, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight must be avoided to protect the delicate overglaze enamels.
