FAQs

Victorian jelly glasses were utilised during the nineteenth century for serving custards, jellies, and trifles at formal dining tables. They reflect the periods emphasis on elaborate dessert courses and tabletop presentation.

These pieces are typically crafted from lead glass or flint glass, shaped using mould-blowing techniques, and finished with hand-cutting or acid-etching to achieve contrasting frosted and clear surfaces.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor irregularities in the glass distribution, hand-cut facets with natural wear, and weight consistent with nineteenth-century lead glass composition.

Antique glass can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, used as bud vases for small botanical cuttings, or incorporated into contemporary tablescapes to add historical texture.

Wash antique glass by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent. Avoid sudden temperature changes, abrasive sponges, and dishwashers to protect the delicate surface details and prevent thermal shock.
