This Edwardian silver jewellery casket originates from the 1920 period, hallmarked in Birmingham with the maker mark of C B & S for Charles Boyton. The piece exhibits a bright silver reflective finish and an oblong silhouette with a serpentine edge, flat hinged lid, and flared bracket feet. Relief repousse floral panels adorn the sides, while the lid bears an engraved central monogram. Dimensions measure 22 cm in width at the base, 14.5 cm in depth at the base, and 8 cm in height. Placement suits a bedside table as a dedicated container for personal items and trinkets. The construction demonstrates a tudric influence in the overall outline and incorporates an orange silk lined interior. Visible details include the prominent floral embossing along the sides and the distinctive corner feet supporting the rectangular body.

A silver jewellery casket is a decorative lidded container designed to store precious personal items on a dressing table or vanity. Originating prominently in the 19th and early 20th centuries, these pieces were often crafted with relief ornament, textile linings, and engraved monograms.

These caskets were typically fabricated from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring repousse or chased floral decoration. The interior was frequently fitted with silk or velvet linings to protect metal jewellery from scratching.

Authentic silver caskets generally display official hallmark stampings indicating silver purity, city of assay, and maker marks. Furthermore, genuine period examples demonstrate hand-chased details, expected signs of wear, and traditional hand-fitted hinges.

A silver jewellery casket serves as a functional accent on a bedside table, dressing table, or living room console. It contrasts effectively against dark timber surfaces or polished stone tops to create a layered aesthetic.

Clean the exterior using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish while preserving dark oxidisation in recessed details. Avoid submerging the object in water if it retains original interior textile linings.
