Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty silver items shaped like miniature furniture became popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Craftsmen produced functional items such as trinket boxes, pin cushions, and needle cases in the forms of tables, chairs, and desks to display technical metalworking skills and serve as decorative vanity accents.

These boxes were constructed from sterling silver, hallmarked to guarantee metal purity (925 parts per 1000). The interiors were frequently lined with velvet, silk, or wood to protect delicate items, while exterior surfaces featured techniques such as engine turning, chasing, or engraving.

Authentic English sterling silver pieces bear a set of official hallmarks stamped by an assay office. These stamps include the lion passant for sterling quality, a town mark (such as a leopard head for London or an anchor for Birmingham), a date letter code, and the registered makers mark.

Miniature silver objects fit well on dressing tables, bedside stands, or tray displays atop sideboards. Grouping them alongside glass bottles, framed artwork, or modern ceramics creates a balanced arrangement combining metallic shine with varied textures.

Clean sterling silver using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without scratching. Store the item in a dry environment away from excess moisture, and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive sponges.
