A court cupboard is a traditional type of storage furniture originating in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, historically used for displaying plate or storing food and textiles in elite households.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid British oak, joined using traditional pegged mortise and tenon joinery, and often embellished with hand-carved decorative motifs.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery such as handmade pegged joints, hand-planed board surfaces, period iron hardware, and natural oxidisation and patina accumulated over centuries.

An antique court cupboard serves as a striking focal point in a contemporary dining room or hallway, providing rich textural contrast when paired with minimalist decor and neutral walls.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying traditional beeswax to maintain the finish.
