Charming pair of Charlotte Rhead hand painted Art Deco vases for Burleigh Ware, dating from the 1920''s.
Charlotte was one of the leading English Ceramic designers of the early 20th century and as such her designs are greatly sought after. This pair of lustre vases are not only of her design but hand painted by Charlotte herself, and signed to the base of both vases.
The pattern known a ''Fruit'' depicts luscious fruits and berries, picked out in pinks, blues and oranges with the most wonderful copper lustre cherries. The vases really catch the light, with the cherries glowing like jewels. Both vases have pink lustre tops and bases.
This is an early example of her work, and the pattern in this colour palette is not as common.
Both vases stand 18cm tall and are 10cm across the widest point of the bases. They are in lovely condition, but do have the gentle surface wear to be expected and is commensurate with their age, which I have reflected in their price. This is noted as slight wear to the lustre base on one vase, and a tiny fleabite on one of the bases ( shown in the photographs ) - all of which are unnoticeable when seen as they both display beautifully.
