Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ware named after the port of Imari, from where ceramics produced in the Arita region were shipped to Europe beginning in the seventeenth century. The style is recognised by its distinct palette of underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red and gilding.

Traditional Imari plates are crafted from fine porcelain clay composed of kaolin stone. The decoration utilizes cobalt oxide for the blue underglaze, which is fired at high temperatures before overglaze enamel pigments such as iron-red and gold enamel are applied and fired in subsequent kiln runs.

Authentic Imari pieces typically exhibit hand-painted variations in decoration rather than transfer-printed uniformity. Inspection of the underside often reveals slight imperfections in the glaze, spur marks from kiln supports, or unglazed foot rims showing greyish-white porcelain clay.

Plates of this nature are commonly styled by arranging them on plate stands on a sideboard, console table, or within glass display cabinets. Alternatively, using secure wire plate hangers allows them to be displayed as part of a structured wall gallery.

Clean porcelain manually using lukewarm water and a mild detergent with a non-abrasive cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, dishwashers, and prolonged submersion in water to prevent degradation of overglaze enamels or gilding.
