This eighteenth-century French provincial buffet deux corps stands 265 cm high, 148 cm wide, and 64 cm deep. Constructed from rich brown walnut, the upper section presents a chapeau de gendarme cornice above two panelled doors with carved mouldings, fluted central stiles, and decorative brass escutcheons. The lower base incorporates two small drawers with simple metal pull handles over two matching cupboard doors flanking further central fluting, terminating in short cabriole feet. The timber displays natural variations in grain and tone, with visible age wear across the surfaces. This traditional storage piece provides functional cabinetry suitable for placement in a kitchen or dining room to house tableware and linens.

A buffet deux corps is a traditional French two-piece storage cupboard comprising a recessed upper cabinet sitting upon a wider lower base with drawers or cupboard doors.

Regional French craftsmen primarily utilised native hardwoods such as walnut, oak, fruitwood, and chestnut, often incorporating pegged mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-forged iron or cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces feature regional characteristics such as curved chapeau de gendarme cornices, hand-carved moulded panel doors, asymmetrical rococo cartouches, cabriole legs, and visible hand-planed timber marks.

A large two-tier cabinet serves as a focal piece in a dining room, kitchen, or living area, pairing well with neutral plaster walls, natural linen upholstery, and contemporary artwork to balance the rich wood tones.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax paste annually along the wood grain to nourish the timber and protect the original patinated surface.
