Joseph Soldano: French Carriage Clock in 'Gorge' Case, C.1870-80

Description

A good French striking Carriage Clock by the famous Parisian Clockmaker Joseph Soldano.

The case is of 'Gorge' Design with undamaged bevelled glass to all five panels, including the rectangular top 'inspection panel'. The 8-day movement retains its original platform lever escapement and strikes hours and half-hours on a gong. The enamel dial is undamaged and features both arabic 0-60-minute to the outer chapter ring and roman numerals within. It also retains its original blued steel moon hands. Serial no: 7401. Complete with winding key.

Signed "Soldano" underneath the platform escapement.

Date: c.1870-1880.
