The balustroid style emerged in the early eighteenth century as a lighter, more refined evolution of the heavy baluster stem, typically featuring a drawn trumpet or bell-shaped bowl atop a slender stem with various knops.

These pieces were predominantly made from lead glass, introduced in the late seventeenth century, which provided higher clarity, refractive brilliance, and a distinctive resonance when struck.

Authentic examples often display specific characteristics such as a folded foot rim, pontil mark on the underside, surface wear consistent with age, and small trapped air bubbles within the metal.

Displaying antique stemware within glass-fronted cabinets or on open shelving allows the light to pass through the clear lead metal, highlighting its historical craftsmanship.

Antique glass should always be hand-washed gently in warm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh abrasives to protect the delicate surface.
