Opaque twist wine glasses feature a stem enclosing white or coloured enamel glass twists, popularized in England during the mid-18th century following the introduction of the Excise Act.

These pieces were crafted from heavy lead glass using free-blowing techniques, with the intricate stem twists formed from separate enamel rods drawn and twisted within a clear glass casing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the foot, natural wear scratches known as age wear, minor surface bubbles within the lead metal, and distinct tool marks from hand-crafting.

Antique stemware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets or styled thoughtfully on open shelving to introduce tactile history and transparent elegance into contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges, and never placed in a dishwasher.
