Famille Rose porcelain, known in Chinese as fencai, is characterised by an opaque pink enamel palette introduced during the Qing Dynasty. In the 19th century, workshops produced decorative pieces featuring flora, fauna, and figurative panels using overglaze enamels.

These ceramics are crafted from kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures to produce hard-paste porcelain, and decorated with metallic oxide enamels. The opaque pink pigment derives from colloidal gold, applied over the glaze and subjected to a second lower-temperature firing.
